Community Meeting + Project Sidewalk Mapathon

We have more green toys ready to be donated and are planning to host another toy drive on March 29th from 9-10:30 am. If you are interested in receiving free adapted toys, please fill out the form below! During the event, there will be a table of adapted toys with switches that can be picked up. Mid-Year Design Review
When: Monday, March 3rd, 2025 | 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Where: UW Nanoengineering Building, Room 181
This quarter, the design teams have been working hard prototyping solutions for accessibility needs within the community! Through three ‘Prototyping Hackfests’ and weekly team meetings, along with the use of prototyping techniques from 3D printing to wireframing, they have taken their designs from the ideation stage to the production stage! Join us on March 3rd from 6:00 - 7:00 PM to give them feedback on their designs!

Switch Build Workshop & Community Meeting

Come to our community meeting to learn more about HuskyADAPT, ongoing club activities and programs, and learn how to build an accessible switch! We will be building low-cost paddle switches that will be donated along with our adapted toys. There will also be some snacks!

CREATE Coffee Chat

Science in Medicine Lecture Series: Chet Moritz, PhD

Lecture Title: "Neurotechnology to promote long-term recovery after brain and spinal cord injury”
Chet Moritz received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, studying the neuromechanics of human movement. A post-doc at the University of Colorado introduced him to the neural control of dexterous hand movements, while a second post-doc at the University of Washington began his interest in brain computer interfaces and neural devices to treat paralysis. He is now the CJ and Elizabeth Hwang endowed professor in the departments Electrical and Computer Engineering, Rehabilitation Medicine and Neurobiology & Biophysics at the University of Washington in Seattle. He also serves as the Co-director for the Center for Neurotechnology. His research team focus on developing and testing novel neurotechnologies to restore movement and other functions after spinal cord injury, stroke, and for children with cerebral palsy.

KCLS Toy Adaptation Workshop
When: Saturday, February 1st, 2025 | 11:30AM – 1:30PM

UW’s HuskyADAPT team will teach you how to modify battery-powered toys to make them accessible to folks with disabilities. Learn basic soldering skills while you help create accessible toys for the community. Adapted toys will be distributed to community organizations and families, ensuring that everyone has the right to play.
For adults and teens ages 12 and older.
Please register. Due to the high temperatures of our soldering irons, ages 11 and younger will not be admitted into the event.
Waivers are required for the use of soldering stations. Ages 17 and younger must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian and be accompanied by an adult.
Please wear close-toed shoes and long hair tied back.
Reasonable accommodation for people with disabilities is available by request. Email access@kcls.org at least seven days before the event. Automated closed captioning is always available for online events.
