HuskyADAPT @ Engineering Discovery Days (Day 2)

Where: Mechanical Engineering Building (MEB) 127

At Engineering Discovery Days, students and faculty from all UW engineering departments share their work with students, teachers, families and the community. Both days are oriented toward 4th through 8th grade students and feature hands-on activities that demonstrate the exciting work of engineers. HuskyADAPT will be hosting a super fun spin-art interactive activity for students in the Mechanical Engineering Building room 127 on both Thursday and Friday — we'd love to see you there!

HuskyADAPT @ Admitted Students Day

Where: Allen Building Atrium

Admitted Student Day (ASD) is an annual one-day extravaganza that gives admitted students a chance to see the UW campus, connect with current students, ask questions, and get a feel for what it’s like to be a Husky. HuskyADAPT will be tabling in the Allen Building Atrium from 10:30-10:00 pm with some adapted toys and GoBabyGo cars — come say hi!

GoBabyGo Leadership Team Applications

Leadership applications for GoBabyGo will open on Wednesday 4/3. If you’re interested in having a more in-depth role in GoBabyGo, fill out our Google Form, or scan our QR code. Applications close on Wednesday, April 24. 

In GoBabyGo, we build ride-on cars for young children with disabilities to empower mobility. Our three teams consist of our technical, outreach, and community team.

AI + Accessibility Hackfest

When: March 1-4, 2024
Where: Bill & Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science & Engineering (CSE2)

Join CREATE, our industry partners, and community partners for a hackfest about exploring and inventing the future of AI and Accessibility. We invite people with no experience in coding or hacking as well as those with advanced experience with generative AI and building software or tools. We also invite people with lived experiences of disabilities independent of technical expertise–we need your experience and expertise to invent an accessible AI-enabled future.
 
There are many ways to get involved, such as helping with project brainstorming, participating in workshops, joining a project team, and providing mentorship. Can't attend the whole thing? No problem! You can participate in parts of the event that meet your interests and schedule.

Come attend HuskyADAPT’s Design Industry Panel to learn how to incorporate accessibility and inclusivity into a fulfilling career! The two panelists are Mark Harniss, an Associate Professor in Rehabilitation Medicine and director of the UW Center for Technology and Disability Studies; and Brennen Johnston, an Assistive Technology Support Technician at the WA Assistive Technology Act Program.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear industry professionals’ experiences in accessible design and technology. All are welcome and light refreshments will also be served.

Join us for HuskyADAPT’s Mid-Year Design Review, where our teams will present their prototypes/solutions and have the opportunity to receive feedback and answer questions about their current designs. Come to NAN 181 on February 26th to hear more about a wheelchair umbrella, mouth stylus holder, desktop “little room,” sensory-enhanced embroidered books, volume-controlled sipping cup, and an accessible library technology system! This event will involve troubleshooting and repairing some of our yellow toys (preview of the Yellow Toy Club)! You do NOT need to be lead toy adapter certified/be a part of the Yellow Toy Club to join us for this event.
